Humiliating History

Pictures from my girlfriend's trip to Greece. Notice how the city buts right up against the ruins. The top picture shows what is left of the Temple of Zeus. Is this culture distroying their history by intergrating the modern with the past? I don't believe so, but it's shocking how close the two eras exist. How cool would it be to have the Temple of Zeus in your backyard? RESPOND BACK

wow, it looks kinda cramped there. but yet at the same time it looks so cool! It WOULD be nice to have a temple of greece in the backyard. LOL.

Oh, and btw, how do you get photos to come up on the screen like that? I mean, I know how to link sites, but I don't know how to put photos straight up on my blog.

Nice post. It's interesting to think about this whole notion of humiliating history in the context of a much older culture. I've been to places in Italy that seem (on the surface anyway) to revel in their histories--the villages that still have the old stone walls around them, etc. But I've also been to cities in the U.K. where bombed-out buildings (from ww2 air raids) sit next to shopping malls. The old and new side by side.
